Partial Solar
Eclipse
On the evening of Wednesday 12 August, the Moon will pass in front of part of the Sun. We are holding a free, public observation evening at Win Green - come and join us, no experience or equipment required.
Date: Wednesday 12 August 2026
Time: 6:30pm - 8:00pm
Location: Win Green, around the Trig Point up by the trees
Cost: Free and open to everyone - members and non-members welcome
Equipment: None needed. If you do bring your own, please make sure proper solar filters are fitted.
Never look directly at the Sun, even during a partial eclipse, without proper solar viewing equipment. Ordinary sunglasses are not safe, no matter how dark.
Win Green is the highest point on Cranborne Chase, with open views to the west - ideal for eclipse watching. Park at the Win Green car park and walk up towards the clump of trees and Trig Point at the summit.
Members are also welcome to join our Perseids meteor shower session the same evening at Compton Abbas airfield - see the Programme page for details.
